Terms of service

Template — requires legal review before launch. This document is a good-faith starting point written for OUTLIER’s actual data practices. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer. Replace bracketed placeholders (operator name, address, governing law) with your real details and have it reviewed for the jurisdictions you operate in.

These terms are an agreement between you and [operator legal name] (“OUTLIER”, “we”) for your use of the OUTLIER website and game. By playing, you agree to them.

1. The game

OUTLIER is a daily game in which you estimate the results of public surveys. Results shown in the game come from third-party sources we cite; they are estimates, may contain errors, and are provided for entertainment. Nothing in OUTLIER is professional, statistical or financial advice.

2. Accounts

  • You can play without an account. If you create one, keep your password secure; you’re responsible for activity on it.
  • You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent where you live) to create an account.
  • Usernames must not impersonate others, be hateful or offensive, or infringe anyone’s rights. We may change or remove usernames that do.

3. Fair play

Leaderboards only mean something if everyone plays fairly. Do not use automation, multiple accounts, exploits or any attempt to interfere with scoring, rate limits or other players. We may remove scores or suspend accounts that break this rule.

4. OUTLIER PLUS

  • PLUS is an optional subscription ($2.99 per month or $24.99 per year, plus any applicable taxes) that unlocks archive mode (replays of past days that don’t count towards leaderboards), cosmetic and statistical extras. It never affects scoring.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time in Settings → Manage billing; you keep access until the end of the paid period.
  • Payments are handled by Stripe. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable. [Confirm refund policy and consumer-law obligations for your jurisdictions.]
  • We may change prices with advance notice; changes apply from your next renewal.

5. Sponsorships

Some days may display a clearly labelled sponsor message. Sponsors have no influence over questions, answers or scoring.

6. Content and intellectual property

The OUTLIER name, logo, design, questions and software belong to us or our licensors. Survey data belongs to the organisations we cite. You may share your result cards and links freely.

7. Availability

We work hard to publish a challenge every day, but the service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, and may be interrupted, changed or discontinued.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, OUTLIER is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. [Review with counsel.]

9. Termination

You can delete your account at any time. We may suspend accounts that violate these terms.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of [jurisdiction], without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.

11. Changes

We may update these terms. If changes are material, we will update the date above and notify account holders where appropriate.
