Privacy policy
Last updated: [date of publication]
OUTLIER (“we”, “us”) is operated by [operator legal name]. This policy explains what information the game collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. We have tried to collect as little as possible.
What we collect
When you play without an account
- A random session identifier stored in a first-party cookie so your progress for the day is remembered.
- Your guesses, scores and the time you submitted them.
- Your IP address, used transiently for rate limiting and abuse prevention. Rate-limit records are deleted within about a day.
When you create an account
- Your email address and username.
- A securely hashed version of your password (we never store your password itself).
- Profile choices such as avatar style, accent colour, theme and an optional short bio.
- Your game history, streaks, achievements and friend connections.
- If you turn on streak reminders: your reminder choices and, for device notifications, the push address your browser gives us (an opaque URL at your browser maker’s push service plus encryption keys).
If you subscribe to OUTLIER PLUS
Payments are processed by Stripe. We receive a customer identifier, your subscription status and renewal date. We never receive or store your full card number. Stripe’s privacy policy applies to the payment information you give them.
If you contact us
The name, email address and message you send through the contact form.
How we use it
- To run the game: remember your progress, calculate scores, maintain streaks and show leaderboards.
- To show your username, avatar, scores and streaks publicly on leaderboards and your profile page.
- To send account emails you ask for, such as password resets.
- To send streak reminders by email or device notification, only if you turn them on in Settings. Every reminder email has a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can switch either channel off in Settings at any time.
- To provide OUTLIER PLUS perks to subscribers.
- To keep the game fair and secure, including rate limiting and preventing abuse.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use third-party advertising trackers.
Cookies
OUTLIER uses one essential cookie to keep you signed in (or to remember your guest progress). It is required for the game to work. See cookie preferences for details.
Service providers
We rely on infrastructure providers to host the site and database (for example Vercel and Supabase), Stripe for payments, and an email provider for transactional email. If you turn on device notifications, reminders are delivered through your browser makeremail provider for transactional email. They processrsquo;s push service (for example Google, Mozilla, Apple or Microsoft). They process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments. [List the providers you actually use and where they store data.]
Retention
Account data is kept while your account exists. Guest sessions that never played are removed after 30 days. When you delete your account, your profile, history, achievements and friendships are deleted immediately; backups roll off within [backup retention period].
Your choices and rights
- You can edit your profile in Settings at any time.
- You can permanently delete your account from Settings.
- Depending on where you live (for example the EU/UK under the GDPR, or California under the CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete your data, and to object to certain processing. Contact us at hello@outlier.day to exercise them.
Children
OUTLIER is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we make material changes we’ll update the date above and, where appropriate, let account holders know.
